Seminar and Research Doctor Course Seminar 8 The Doctoral Seminar and Research category course is deemed to be replaced with a separately specified English-language course of Graduate School of Engineering, Information Sciences, Environmental Studies, or Biomedical Engineering, according to the student’s affiliation.
The Doctoral Seminar and Research course includes International Long-term Study (Six to twelve months of overseas doctoral research).

Credits prescribed in the above table may be awarded as the credits required for completing the program of your department, upon request.

Degree Conferral Requirements

(1) Requirements to advance to the second year of the Master’s Program
1) System Integration Seminar, a Master’s Seminar and Research category course, must be completed.
2) Pass the Qualification Examination 1 (QE1) in the GP-Mech

(2) Requirements to advance to the Doctoral Program
1) Earn at least four credits each in the Fundamental Specialization category and the Specialization category.
2) Earn at least six credits in the (Master’s) International Program category.
3) More than 50% of the credits earned for the Master’s Program are from courses conducted in English.
4) Earn the required number of credits in the Master’s Seminar and Research category.
5) Pass the Qualification Examination 2 (QE2) in the GP-Mech.

(3) Requirements to Complete the Program
1) Earn at least two credits by taking courses in the Fundamental Interdisciplinary Studies category.
2) Earn at least four credits in the (Doctoral) International Program category.
3) Over two-thirds of the credits earned for the Doctoral Program are from courses conducted in English.
4) Earn the required number of credits in the Doctoral Seminar and Research category.
5) Pass the Qualification Examination 3 (QE3) in the GP-Mech.
6) Receive the necessary guidance, submit a doctoral dissertation and pass the screening and final degree examination given by the Division for International Joint Graduate Program of Tohoku University Institute for Promoting Graduate Degree Programs.
